Introduction
Taerosol is a fast growing contract cosmetics manufacturer producing aerosol products across a wide and constantly rotating portfolio.
Operating a high output production line with dozens of SKUs in production, the company faced a quality assurance challenge where the sheer variety of products, defect types, and changeover frequency made consistent, repeatable inspection by human operators laborious and unreliable. A missed defect on an aerosol line isn’t a minor issue: it carries regulatory, safety, and brand consequences that reach far beyond the production floor.
The challenge
Quality inspection of aerosol products presented three compounding difficulties:
- A diverse product portfolio meant that defect profiles varied significantly across SKUs.
- The range of potential errors was wide: label defects, cap faults and label placement failures.
- Contract manufacturing meant new products were introduced frequently, requiring inspection criteria to be updated continuously.
Traditional rule-based machine vision systems would have struggled to keep up the challenges presented.
The solution
MarshallAI deployed an automated inline inspection station integrated directly into the production line, capable of checking every single unit at full line speed without interruption.
The system was trained to recognise the client’s full range of defect types across all current SKUs, and designed to adapt rapidly when new products are introduced. Rather than requiring manual reprogramming for each changeover, the system learns new product profiles quickly, keeping inspection coverage continuous even as the portfolio evolves.
